Photo-resize products skip the AI entirely — just your photo, cropped to exact dimensions, with bleed added automatically. Here's what to know about resolution, crop decisions, and when this method beats AI-styled alternatives.
When you want the photo, not an interpretation.
Our AI-styled products (laser, UV, embroidery) reinterpret your photo into a new medium. Beautiful for some contexts, wrong for others. Photo-resize keeps your photo exactly as it is — same colours, same detail, same composition — just cropped and printed at the product's exact dimensions.
Best when your photo is the gift: wedding photos, family portraits, travel shots. Worst when your source photo has flaws — bad lighting, low resolution, busy background — because there's no AI cleanup to fall back on.
Resolution rules you can't break.
For print that doesn't look pixelated up close, your source photo needs to be at least 300 DPI at the print dimensions. A 10×15cm gift needs a source image of at least 1200×1800 pixels. A wall print needs 3000+ px on the long side.
Modern phones deliver this easily. Screenshots, WhatsApp-compressed photos, and social-media downloads usually don't. Send us the original file — airdropped, emailed, or from your camera roll — not a downloaded version.
Crop is where gifts succeed or fail.
The most common photo-resize mistake: crop too tight, lose headroom, heads feel squashed. Crop too loose, subject gets lost in background. Our crop tool shows you the safe zone (the printed area) and the bleed margin (the buffer that gets trimmed) — keep important detail inside the safe zone.
Rule of thumb: for portraits, leave roughly 10% headroom above the top of the head. For landscapes, keep the horizon on the upper or lower third, never dead-centre. For couple/family, centre the group horizontally but biased slightly below the vertical middle.
Bleed is why your gift doesn't have a white border.
Printed gifts get trimmed to final size after printing. If the image stops exactly at the edge, tiny misalignments during trimming leave a white stripe. Bleed is an extra 2-3mm of image that extends past the final edge — trimmed off, invisible, but it's the reason your gift arrives edge-to-edge.
We add bleed automatically. Just make sure the important detail (faces, text, borders you want visible) sits inside the safe zone. If your photo already has a white border as part of the design, mention it — we'll keep it deliberately.
