We UV-print and assemble

Two prints, one reveal
The front carries the off-state graphic — a line drawing of your photo, or a word, name or date. The full-colour photo sits behind it, and a white-ink layer printed between the two keeps the photo invisible until the warm-white LED behind it switches on.
That sandwich is why the surprise holds in daylight: without the backlight, the front is all anyone sees.
Which photos make the reveal hit
The front line-art is drawn from your photo, so a clear single subject — faces large in the frame — gives a clean drawing. Busy backgrounds muddy the line work.
The hidden photo can be as colourful as you like; the backlight is what carries it. If you are choosing between two shots, pick the one where you can name what is in it at a glance.
The flip is the gift — stage it
Hand it over switched off and let it read as a minimalist sketch. Then point at the cable. USB-C means any phone charger or power bank works, so the reveal can happen anywhere — dinner table, void deck, hotel room.
The effect reads strongest in the evening, when the warm backlight has the room to itself.
